How to Perform Your Own Roof Inspection

By: Shawn Brannan

June is a great month to spend extra time outdoors. The wet springtime weather is behind us and the leaves are still firmly on their branches. One great way to avoid roof repairs and extend the life of your roof is to periodically climb up and assess its condition. Why not do that this month?

When you assess the condition of your roof pay particular attention to gutters, drains, scuppers and downspouts. Are they full of debris or vegetation? Take a few minutes to clean them out and help your roof drain properly. Proper drainage is a VERY good thing!

How do the corners, curbs and pipe flashings look? Are they worn, distorted or cracking? Remember Grandma’s saying, “A stitch in time saves nine.”? What she was really saying was “Address any small problems with your roof before you need a full roof replacement.”  If it doesn’t look right, it probably isn’t. When you’re up there, feel free to take photos of your roof and send them to us at with your name and contact information. We’ll give you a call and discuss what we see. Some things may need attention - others may not. We’re happy to advise you about how to proceed in terms of any materials we recommend for your roof repairs as well as where you can purchase them.

If you would like a checklist of what to look for during this month’s roof inspection, text ALLELEMENTS to 22828 and we’ll send one to you!
