We're proud to announce successful completion of a really huge project: the Cheyenne River Health Center in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. It's a pretty new building, but the roof had serious problems.
When the CRHC opened in 2011, it had a Firestone roof: Ultra Ply 60 Mil TPO with Red Shield warranty. Unfortunately, the building suffered chronic leaking from the very beginning. All Elements Roof Consultant Paul Levisee saw extensive patching when he initially inspected the roof in order to measure it and provide a bid.
We were delighted to get the job, but it had its challenges. First, it's a 10 hour drive from our shop. We, and several other trades, had to coordinate our work under a general contractor. It was tricky getting a dozen or so semi deliveries in and out of the center's grounds. Additional personal protective equipment, such as masks, were required as our crew worked near exhaust fans.
“We needed to stay in constant contact with the hospital to make sure there was no disturbance to patients below areas we were working," says Paul. Also, “weather played a big role in this project. South Dakota weather during summer months is very unpredictable and sudden. We had to always keep an eye on the sky to ensure the hospital stayed dry at all costs”
And let's not forget--it was 140,000 square feet of roofing! This large scale project took two months to complete.
We love a challenge at All Elements, so we got started. First step: remove the membrane, revealing extensive leaking and saturated insulation, which we removed. Poor water flow was responsible for some of the leaking, so we redesigned areas to resolve that, adding tapered insulation where appropriate.
Roofing was completed with a Duro-Last 50 Mil PVC membrane. A 15 year No Dollar Limit warranty with coverage for consequential damage was issued. Covering consequential damage was a key decision factor for the CRHC, Indian Health Services and the architect.
We also encapsulated the parapet walls and capped the parapet with exceptional metals.
The customer was so happy with our work, they asked us to roof the new ambulance bay area.
